PLA VS PETG VS TPU

MATERIALS24 AUG 2026BINARY DIVISION2 MIN READ

THE SHORT VERSION

PLA for normal indoor things. PETG for heat, water, and outdoors. TPU when the part needs to bend. If you are not sure, pick PLA. It is the default for a reason.

PLA: THE DEFAULT

PLA is strong, prints cleanly, and costs ৳5 per gram, flat. It is fine indoors at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight for long periods and anything that lives near real heat, like a car dashboard.

Use PLA for desk accessories, organizers, wall mounts, gifts, nameplates, and most of the catalog.

PETG: HEAT AND WATER

PETG handles heat, humidity and sunlight better than PLA: ৳5 per gram flat. Slightly tougher, slightly less crisp on fine detail.

Use PETG for kitchen parts, bathroom parts, aquarium pieces, outdoor brackets, and anything that meets water or steam.

TPU: WHEN IT MUST BEND

TPU is rubber-like: it bends, absorbs shock, and grips. It costs ৳5 per gram flat and prints slower. Not for parts that need to stay rigid.

Use TPU for phone cases, bumpers, grips, and gaskets.

THE SPEC SHEET

All three run at ৳35 per machine hour with a ৳40 setup fee, a ৳150 minimum job, and the same 25% margin. The material rates are the only difference, plus print speed.

  • PLA: ৳5 per gram, density 1.24
